It has been quite a while since I wrote something in my blog for the mere reason I was busy playing my favorite games in Playstation 3. And because of my addiction, I fail to watch tv news or should I say I intentionally fail watching current affairs. Why should I bother? I know they just mostly feature negative events happening in our country.
Though I am not completely updated, this doesn’t mean that I am not aware of big issues such as this Katrina Halili and Hayden Kho Scandal. Hello, there are other means such as Internet and blogging. Hearing and reading this scandalous issue, I began to watch news again.
Though what intrigues me in this issue, unlike other people who are after watching the said video, is not that Katrina Halili had an intimate bed scene with Hayden Kho. I just wonder why suddenly the Senate and other human rights group such as Gabriela became more vocal. On the other hand, can it be the fault of media just featuring this hearing to increase their TV rankings?
Are they after for publicity again since this intrigues the masses? Isn’t that before the said scandal was featured, there are more scandals placed in the net ranging from local scandals (such as the ever popular Lasalle Scandal) and celebrity Scandals (Jennilyn Mercado, Angel Locsin, Heart Evangelista, Ethel Booba scandal). Yes, it is still clear in my mind politicians and human rights group raised their voices before. Still, is the aggravating problem solved? Clearly, the answer is no.
I am not saying that what they are fighting for is wrong. My point here is that this is not a simple problem that can be solved just by saying that you fight for human rights nor just making a Bill to penalize whoever is spreading these kinds of videos. This problem transformed into a cycle.
Recently, I’ve just watched a movie called Notorious (a story of gangster rapper known as Notorious B.I.G. who is popular during the mid 90’s). And part of his line struck me. “In order to change the world, we must first change ourselves”
Yes, I believe more than saying, more than penalizing, also more than education, a change in values is a must. And this change will only occur if REALIZATION within ourselves happens.
